The Rotary Club of Minden sponsored two exceptional high school students to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camp which was held at Maranatha Camp this past July.
Rotary Club of Minden Sponsors Ophthalmology Clinic in Argentina
The Rotary Club of Minden will serve as the International Club Sponsor, partnering with the Rotary Club of Totoras, Argentina, to establish an ophthalmology clinic in Totoras, Argentina.
The Rotary Club of Minden will celebrate its 100th year in 2026. To commemorate this important milestone and to honor the club’s birthplace, Minden, Nebraska, the club has selected a centennial project.
“Our members have decided that we will present the City of Minden with a permanent flag pole and American flag in Chautauqua Park,” said club president, Marse McCann-Carpenter. “Minden club members were inspired by a similar flag pole erected at the Archway by The Rotary Club of Kearney. We have already started raising money for the project through our Minden Holiday Flag project.”
The flag pole with flag is expected to require $3000 to $10,000 to complete. Earlier this year the club began selling subscriptions to the Minden Holiday Flag project. Home owners sign up to have an American flag placed in front of their houses on four holidays a year- Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day- for only $25.00 per year. The Rotary Club installs an unobtrusive lawn receptacle, supplies the flag with pole and club volunteers place the flag in front of the subscriber’s home on each of the designated holiday mornings and take them down in the evening.
“Our holiday flag project was modeled after the same type of project sponsored by The Rotary Club of Hastings,” continued McCann-Carpenter. “The Hastings project has grown so much that they now have entire streets displaying flags on these holidays. Our hope is that Minden will become known not only as the Christmas City, but also as the Flag City of Nebraska. Each subscription sold brings us closer to our goal.”
Minden residents who would like to subscribe to the Minden City Holiday Flag project can do so by visiting the club’s website (mindenrotary.com) filling out the form found on the home page and returning it to Cassandra Tomsen, Minden Exchange Bank, PO Box 179, Minden Nebraska. Checks should be made out to The Rotary Club of Minden.
The Rotary Club of Minden meets at noon on the second and fourth Thursday of every month at the Minden Opera House. Meetings feature engaging speakers and visitors are welcome.
